Vernita

Old Growth Douglas Fir / Bourbon County, KY Barn Beam

VERNITA is a large wood serving bowl that was hand turned on my lathe from a more than one-hundred-year old barn beam. The wood is old-growth Douglas-fir. The wood had numerous small cracks from age and several knots, and these have been retained in the turned bowl. They are visible on the interior and exterior of the vessel, as well as along the rim, and add to the uniqueness of the piece.

Perfect for holding fruit or serving a large salad, this bowl measures approximately 9-1/2″ in diameter and 4-5/8″ tall (with an interior width of 8-1/2 and a depth of 4″). The bowl was polished with Terra Nova NaturOil which is food safe, FDA approved, kosher, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, free of dyes, perfumes, and nut oils that can cause allergic reactions, and protects against drying, cracking, and water damage. The NaturOil was followed by a coating of beeswax which is applied for added protection.
