Rex
Walnut & Maple Burl | Bourbon County, KY
REX is a handmade walnut lidded bowl with a maple burl finial, all hand turned on my lathe. The woods used to make this covered dish were responsibly sourced in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
Worm tracks are visible on the interior of the walnut bowl. Worm holes are made by the misleadingly named woodworm. Woodworms actually are the wood-eating larval form of a variety of beetle species. The top of the maple burl finial was left “rough,” retaining the inner bark of the burl.
With the lid on, the bowl measures 9-1/4″ wide by 3-5/8″ tall with an interior depth of 3/4″ and interior width of 8″. The wood was finished with high friction polish to bring out its natural color, grain, and tone.
