Rae

Cherry, Spalted Maple, & Walnut | Central Kentucky

RAE is a handmade lidded wooden bowl that I turned on my lathe. The bowl itself is made from cherry wood, the lid is spalted maple, and the finial is walnut. The finial was hand-carved. The cherry and walnut woods were responsibly sourced right here in Bourbon County, Kentucky, while the spalted maple came from adjacent Scott County.

Without the lid, the bowl is approximately 4-3/4″ wide by 2″ tall with an interior width of 3-7/8″ and a depth of 1-5/8″. With the lid, the measurements are 5-1/8″ wide by 4-3/4″ tall (including finial).

The wood was finished with high friction polish to bring out the wood’s natural color, grain, and tone. The finish is not food safe, though the bowl may be used to hold candy, nuts, etc. It’s also perfect for rings, cuff links, and other small trinkets.
