Jupiter

Spalted Beech | Franklin County, KY

JUPITER is a spalted beech large round wood serving platter that was hand turned on my lathe and made from wood that was responsibly sourced in nearby Franklin County, Kentucky. This is the very last of just a few pieces of this spalted beech wood that I was able to get my hands on.

This particular piece of beech has a rich depth to its coloring as well as some incredibly gorgeous figuring and spalting. Living in Central Kentucky, I am fortunate to have access to a variety of beautiful woods, but this one stands out among them. It’s a show stopper!

The platter measures approximately 15-1/2″ wide, 1-5/8″ tall, and 1″ deep and was finished with food safe walnut oil to provide a durable finish and rich luster.

Any cracks in the wood are naturally occurring and have been reinforced. Wood is an organic substance, and even after being turned and finished, wood can “move” in response to the released pressure, humidity, and temperature. All of this adds to this platter’s beauty and character, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
