Ingrid
Cherry, Maple, & Exotic Wood | Central Kentucky
INGRID is a handmade cherry wood lidded bowl with a maple cover and exotic wood finial, all hand turned on my lathe. The cherry and maple woods were responsibly sourced here in Central Kentucky. The cherry came from a 50-year-old slab, giving this vessel its aged look.
Wormholes are visible and all cracks are natural and have been reinforced. The exotic wood used for the finial came to me from a retiring woodturner who no longer needed the wood he’d collected over the years. This piece was an offcut from a furniture maker, making excellent use of wood normally considered waste.
With the lid (including the finial), the bowl measures 5-1/2″ wide by 6-3/4″ tall. Without the lid, the bowl is approximately 5″ wide and 3-1/8″ tall, with an interior measurement of 4-1/8″ wide by 2-1/2″ deep. The wood was finished with high friction polish to bring out its natural color, grain, and tone.
