Fenya
Spalted Dogwood & Walnut | Central Kentucky
FENYA is a turned wooden box made from spalted dogwood with a hand carved walnut finial. All of the wood was responsibly sourced here in Central Kentucky (the dogwood in Franklin County and the walnut right here in Bourbon County). Every now and then I luck onto an exceptionally gorgeous piece of wood, and this is one of those occasions. This truly is a one-of-a-kind piece.
I’m told that the dogwood tree lived a long life and was a cherished gem gracing Shelby Street in Kentucky’s capital city with its beautiful pink flowers every spring. I feel privileged to be able to give the tree a second life where hopefully it continues to bring joy to those that see it.
With the lid, this turned wooden box measures 5″ wide by 3-7/8″ tall. Without the lid, the bowl is approximately 1-1/2 tall and 1″ deep. The wood was finished with Yorkshire Grit & Hampshire Sheen to bring out the wood’s natural color, grain, and tone.
