Eudora
Sugar Maple, Walnut, & Box ElderĀ | Central Kentucky
EUDORA is a hand turned covered sugar maple wood bowl with a walnut lid and a hand-carved box elder finial. The box elder wood was carved in such a way to retain some of the inner bark. All of the woods used were responsibly sourced. The sugar maple and box elder woods are from nearby Franklin County, Kentucky, while the walnut is from right here in Bourbon County.
Interestingly, the sugar maple is from a tree that had been several hundred years old. Large parts had begun breaking off from age and after several severe storms. In spite of the challenges, the owners tried to save the tree but eventually had to make the difficult decision to have it removed. Now it lives on in a new form.
With the lid and finial, the bowl approximately measures 5″ wide by 4″ tall. Without the lid, the bowl is 4-1/2″ wide by 2″ tall, and 1-1/2″ deep. The wood was finished with high friction polish to bring out its natural color, grain, and tone.
