Artemis

Spalted Beech / Central Kentucky

ARTEMIS is a decorative wood bowl that I hand turned from spalted beech with bark inclusions, worm holes, and natural cracks (which have been reinforced).

Artemis was known as the goddess of the hunt, the daughter of Zeus, and the twin sister of Apollo. An archer with the power to send plagues upon mortals, I couldn’t help but think of her while I had the piece on the lathe. The beautiful figuring and depth of color, not to mention the overall appearance and feel of the wood, made me think of Greek mythology and nature.

This decorative wood bowl measures approximately 12-1/4″ wide by 1-3/4″ tall with interior dimensions of 7″ wide by 1″ deep and was finished with high friction polish to bring out the wood’s natural color, grain, and tone. The bowl is safe to hold fruit, vegetables, and dried goods, but should be kept away from moisture and never immersed in water.
