Ano is a curly koa wood plate that was hand turned on my lathe. The wood came to us from a woodturner who was retiring his lathe and the stock of wood that he’d collected over the years. Koa is a prized wood that comes from Hawaii and is considered to be the most beautiful of Hawaii’s native hardwoods.

Wood is described as curly (curl is a type of figuring) when the grain is compressed perpendicularly across the face of the wood which produces alternate stripes of hard and soft wood fibers making the wood look iridescent as light reflects off of it from different angles.

The plate is 8-1/4″ wide and 5/8″ high and was polished with Terra Nova NaturOil which is FDA approved, kosher, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, free of dyes, perfumes, and nut oils that can cause allergic reactions, and protects against drying, cracking, and water damage. The NaturOil is followed by a coating of beeswax which is applied for added protection.
